La Boite Theatre Company launches its latest series of week-long School Holiday Workshops for 6-18 year olds - taking place in the September break.
In time for Halloween, La Boite's devilishly creative and freakily fun workshops will blow away the cobwebs - as participants get stuck in to one of four workshops over five days where they will develop their skills, make new friends and let their imagination run wild!
Participants can enrol in workshops designed for those aged 6-8, 9-12, 13-15 or 16-18 years. La Boite's workshop leaders are experienced professional theatre makers - and heaps of fun too! They will provide a supportive and inspiring environment, guiding participants through activities in all areas of theatre. Families and friends are welcome to attend the final open workshop session on Friday afternoon to see some of the activities and skills developed over the week.
The workshops will run Monday 20 September - Friday 1 October at La Boite in the Creative Industries Precinct, Kelvin Grove.
IT'S ALIVE!?
with Anja Homburg for 6-8 year olds
If your toothbrush could talk, what would it tell you? If some socks told you a story, what would it be about? It's almost Halloween and strange things can happen. Inanimate objects come to life and 'tell-it-like-it-is'. This workshop is great for getting young performers to use their bodies in new, expressive ways, make friends and stretch their imaginations. You don't need any previous experience in drama to join in the fun and make friends. Together you will create scenes that explore the secret lives of every-day objects. In the afternoon of the final class, your friends and family will be treated to a short performance.

FREAKY
with Peta Ward for 9-12 year olds
Freaked out? You should be! This workshop will have you jumping out of your skin, as you play with the idea of what makes something frightening, fun or both. Whether it's creepy crawlies, roller coasters, or a simple phobia of buttons (Koumpounophobia!) use your story-telling talents to act out what gives us the creeps and how to stay brave. You don't need any previous drama experience to join the thrill. Friends and family can attend a short showing on the final afternoon where you can demonstrate your spine-chilling skill.

HAUNTED
with Emma-Che Martin for 13-15 year olds
Ghosts aren't the only ones who can do the haunting! Do you have a favourite haunt? Who do you haunt it with and why is that place important to you? Memories of people, places and events layer our experience of the world in amazing, amusing or…unexpected ways. Your powers of observation and imagination will be needed to devise scenes and stories of what it's like to haunt - or - be haunted. Spooky? Maybe. Intriguing? Definitely. Even if you are new to performance or drama, you'll have a lot to contribute during this workshop that will breathe new life into your body, your voice and your bright ideas. The workshop will conclude with a showing for family and friends.

OUT OF YOUR SKIN
with Christopher Sommers for 16-18 year olds
Climb out of your skin and into a new one by honing your existing performances skills with exercises to build complex and compelling characters with integrity. Once you've stepped into your fully fleshed-out character, let their story pour forth with the tools you've acquired to tackle even the most nerve-wracking audition. Push your performance craft to new limits, and at the end-of-week showing for family and friends, you might just be unrecognisable. Now that's acting.
